Why are menthol cigarettes being banned?

Menthol cigarettes are being banned due to the new EU Tobacco Product Directive laws being passed. It is part of a movement to help deter young people from picking up the bad habit through menthol flavoured cigarettes. Although it is an EU law, it has come into effect in the UK regardless of the United Kingdoms departure of the European Union.

When did the ban come into force?

The new law has been in effect since 20th May 2020.

Are menthol e-liquids being banned too?

No. Thankfully for the vaping industry, the new law does not include menthol e-liquid and vaping devices. 

What alternatives are there?

There are plenty menthol alternatives available through electronic cigarettes.
